Summary of the April 2012 Capitol Panteras
Meeting
The April meeting again had no Club cars in the parking lot. There was no clear reason. Despite the lack of Club cars, we had good turn out for the CP meeting. We had 13 attending the meeting; Jim & Emilia Seiferling, John McNamee, Ken Montgomery, Garry & Sue Choate, Carl Stein, Mike Drew, John Worsley, Lori Albino, Rick Carlile, Don Gagnon, Ken Scherfee.
Treasurer John brought the paper work to continue Capitol Panteras membership in the Association of California Auto Clubs. There was a unanimous vote to continue our membership. This is an organization that lobbies for the Car Hobby at the state Capitol. We feel this is an important activity that our club should support.
Treasurer John reported we have $1,291 in the bank. The raffle this month was provided by treasurer John. He made up a DeTomaso blanket at his shop. It was a unique "one of one" item, at least until he makes the next one. There was great interest in winning the blanket, resulting in very good ticket sales of $44. The DeTomaso blanket was won by our new member Ken Scherfee. Congratulations Ken. Next month John promises us another unique DeTomaso item from his shop. You'll have to come to the meeting to find out what that might be.
The "Driving for Gas $" drawing was not held because we need at least 2 club cars to hold the drawing. There was discussion about the two car rule and it was decided to drop the minimum number of cars to one car for the next four months.
Ken announced that the DeLorean Club Gold Country drive that had been scheduled for Saturday, March 24, was rescheduled due to wet weather. The drive is set for later in the summer. Capitol Pantera members are welcome to join in on the fun. The exact route and details will be listed on the Capitol Pantera web site.
The tech session at Rick's shop is a go. It is set for Saturday, April 21, at 10 AM. Let's take advantage of our fellow Capitol Panteras members to pick their brains on fixing any Pantera concerns you might have. At this time we will probably have two Panteras that need some attention. There is room in Rick's garage for three cars, plus the parking lot. The weather is looking great for the weekend. If you are coming, please bring your own lawn chair. Emilia & Jim will be bringing donuts, but you need to bring your own coffee, tea or other drinks. We will be calling out for pizza for lunch. Rick has bottled water.
Lori has been volunteered to write an article about the April POCA Fun Rally since she and Mike will be attending the event in Phoenix. Nobody that we know of, from our Capitol group, is planning on going.
Don has offered to set up another drive in the Foothills this year. He is thinking about going south of Jackson area this time. Exact date and times will be announced when the plans firm up.
Jim is still thinking about a Pantera Picnic this summer. We have a couple of possible locations in mind, but nothing firm yet. Details to follow as they develop.
Ken Scherer reminded the group about the Reno Air Races in September 12 -16. He hosts a dinner there and invites Panteras drivers to join the fun. Ken also reported that there is an article about the Pantera in the April 2012 issue of Octane Magazine.
Carl gave the group an update on the CAM (California Automobile Museum). Carl is on the board. The 5-year lease on the building is not going to be renewed by the City of Sacramento when the lease is up in 2 years. The Museum is looking for a new site. There are issues with the building other than the lease renewal. The city of West Sacramento is interested in having the museum move across the Sacramento River. Carl will keep us up to date as the relocation project continues. Carl also reported that Edward Towe, the museum founder, died recently. Mr. Towe was in his nineties.
Wanted: Articles for CP Newsletter
If you have attended a car function of any type, please
write about your car adventures and send it to jes@riverdeltawireless.com
to be included in the next Capitol Pantera newsletter. If
newsletter articles are not received, then it will be more of Jim &
Emilia's automotive adventures or "The Motoring Mouth".
