Bullitt

August 11, 2019

Bob Hope Fox Theater, Stockton

By Emilia Seiferling

Jim and I enjoyed a Sunday afternoon at the movies.  The movie was “Bullitt”.  The 1969 movie was better than I remembered.  Seeing the movie on the big screen was much better than watching on the VCR version.  For a fifty year old movie, it held up very well.  The most “dated” thing to me was how the cell phone would have changed the action.  It was difficult not to think about how many times you would have used the cell phone to communicate during the film.  With no cell the characters had to respond entirely differently to many situations in the plot.  We lived in San Francisco for several years in the late 70’s so it was fun to follow the classic chase scene.  It skipped around the City so much and the total lack of traffic!  The chase scene has no music only the engine sounds.  That was at the suggestion of Lalo Shifrin, the man who wrote all the background music for the film. (L.S. also wrote the music for the Mission Impossible television show).  Car movies are always a good way to spend an afternoon, especially if you can be out driving a Pantera.

Meeting Notes

We had 12 members at the August meeting.  John Drago will continue as president of Capitol Panteras.  Sue passed around a sheet with the details of our Christmas party set up.  See the attached Word file.  August 24 is “Drive your Pantera Day”. You are to drive your Pantera, take a photo of it and you, and send it to POCA.  Rick Carlile was invited to race at Monterey this year in his TVR, but will not be able to race.  He suffered engine issues while racing at Portland and the engine is still in the repair process.  Garry and Sue, Mike and Lori will be going to Monterey this year.  Hopefully there will be pictures for the news letter next month.  John McNamee’s brother, Mike, will be racing his V6 Skylark at Monterey.  John sold his Echo Shirts business, but said he’ll still sell shirts from the back of his Porsche Cayenne!  Jeff Budelli is looking for a 1933 Harley flat head.  If you have any leads, just email Jim and I’ll get the information to Jeff.  Comments were made about the average age of Pantera owners (70+).  Time to sell, while there are still buyers out there?  Best quote of the evening; “I don’t need Google, my wife knows everything”.  See everyone next month, September 10th..

On January 1, 2020 (140 days from now) California Cap & Trade is going to cause gas taxes to go up by as much as 72 cents per gallon!
