EuroSunday, July 27

by Emilia Seiferling

This was a EuroSunday that we didn't attend.  The 130 mile round trip to Grant Bay just didn't strike our fancy that Sunday.  Too early, too far, and too much gas at 15 mpg on the Pantera.  Maybe the next EuroSunday.

Festa Italiana, August 3

by Emilia Seiferling

The Festa Itaiana in Sacramento is an especially nice Pantera outing for us.  It is one of the few events that we don't have to be up at the crack of dawn in order to attend!  We were able to sleep in a bit since the appointed departure time from Mimi's was 10:30 AM.  Jim had prepped the Pantera on Saturday so we just had to jump in the car and go.  It was a very pleasant surprise for us that traffic for this journey to Sacramento was so light despite the later start.  There was no traffic on Highway 160 making it the usual beautiful drive following the Sacramento River north toward Sacramento.  We were still the first to arrive at Mimi's but we were soon joined by George Potiris, Henry Kirk, Dennis Gacutan, and Rick & Marcia Carlile.  It was a short drive for the Pantera caravan to the Festa Italiana.  We arrived at the reserved Italian car parking at the entrance to the Festa and were flagged in by Jeff Budelli who, as "Car Chairman" for the event, was already there with his Pantera.  A few minutes later the final Pantera arrived, Terry Morofsky. That brought our total to seven Panteras!  The actual number of Capitol Pantera members attending the Festa was even higher.  Also present were John Worsley (the Bricklin doesn't qualify for this event) and Tom & Kathy Vona.  Tom has sold his Pantera, but will always be welcomed to join us in whatever exotic he currently has.  The other vehicles on display that Sunday were Vespa scooters and a Ferrari.  The Ferrari is owned by Mike & Jan Paragini .  Mike has attended a couple of CP events in the past driving either a Lamborghini or Ford GT.

After getting the cars all arranged for the display, we were off to explore the Festa.  We then settled in at the couple of tables that Jeff had set aside for us, in the shade for the majority of the afternoon.  We enjoyed the Italian music, folk dancing, and food.  Courtesy free drink tickets were supplied by Jeff.  Later in the afternoon we were joined by Jeff's girlfriend Robin and her sister Donna as well as Terry's wife Sherry.  This is a real "no brainer" fun event for the CP group.  So for all of you CP members who missed the Festa this year, mark you calendar for next August.  Well be back.

We didn't make this one either.  If any CP member did go they didn't submit a review for the newsletter.

Wanted: Articles for CP Newsletter

If you have attended a car function of any type, please write about your car adventures and send it to jes@riverdeltawireless.com   to be included in the next Capitol Pantera newsletter.  If newsletter articles are not received, then it will be more of Jim & Emilia's automotive adventures or "The Motoring Mouth".

Meeting Notes August 12, 2008

The weather was again hot for a drive to the CP monthly meeting at Mimi's.  But this month there were  two Panteras at the meeting!  The "Driving for Gas $" winner was Rick Carlile. Lamar and Henry were in the raffle but didn't win. Others in attendance, but in their daily drivers were: Jeff & Robin, Jim & Emilia, Carl, Nancy & Mike Haney. Also present were new Pantera owners Nancy Foster and Chuck Becket of Auburn.  Nancy and Chuck bought a "barn find" in Loomis.  They are now working on an all-consuming ground up restoration.

That's Chuck being consumed by their Pantera.

Rick again brought the raffle tickets and the raffle prize, a $20 Kragen gift card. Henry won the raffle.  CP did a better job on finances this month.  We actual made $4 between the raffle and the driving for gas money raffle.

It appears that Jim & Emilia will be the only CP members with a car at Concorso Italiano, in Marina.  Mike Drew will be there if he gets back for his Iraq trip in time.  PCNC will be taking over the Pantera Corral at Laguna Seca.  Check out the PCNC website for details of how to get your Corral Pass and race tickets.  PCNC also has rooms for POCA members, at the Las Laureles Lodge in Carmel Valley.

Jim reported to the Club that POCA is considering moving the Annual Fun Rally to Reno in 2009. The tentative dates are June 10-14, 2009. The POCA board has a survey for members to fill out.  The reaction of ALL attending the CP meeting was that Reno would be a great location.  Everyone said that they would consider attending at Reno, where they would not go to Las Vegas.  All members are encouraged to fill out the POCA survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=QWr9MLBa83JDZ46KuNPZdw_3d_3d.

( Editorial Comment).  At least try the move and if it doesn't work, go back to L.V.  If it does work, maybe consider alternating between locations.  The same reason that has been used about SoCal not wanting to drive north applies to NorCal and points north, not wanting to drive South.  So SoCal, welcome to our life for the past 27 years!  There are plenty of good places to eat in Reno and there are more drives to do. This is a car club, why not go somewhere you can drive!  Also I believe that the track is longer at Fernley and closer to town making it feasible for racers to stay at the host hotel and for non-racers to do a trip to the track for either a half or full day.  The drive out to Fernley is actually fun, with the Pantera, even if it's on I-80.

We have been in contact with Jim Nowlin, of the Reno-Tahoe Panteras.  We have confirmed the date for our Annual Joint Brunch Run. The date is Sunday, September 21.  Please mark your calendar.  Nancy Foster reported that the Rainbow Lodge is closed.  It appears that past location for our Joint Brunch will not work.  Nancy will look into possible locations in her area.  We will talk to Jim Nowlin at Concorso to try and work out some options. That information will be passed along when we know more.

Mark your calendar for the Rio Rendezvous Car show Saturday, October 11.  Jim & Emilia will be doing breakfast for those who enter their cars in the event, which is a fundraiser for the Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce.  You need to be in town early for the show, thus the bribe of breakfast at the house.  For those who don't want to be on the road to Rio that early, you can park on the street near our house.  We will have a group lunch at Foster's Bighorn, about noon.  But that will be a BYOL, i.e. Buy Your Own Lunch.  Our house will serve as a meet and greet area during the Car Show.
