Festa Italiana, Sacramento

August 3, 2014

Sunday, August 3, was the Festa Italiana in Sacramento.  Capitol Panteras was again given the opportunity to display our Panteras at the Festa.  Although the turn out of cars was low, those in attendance enjoyed the event.  We had two Panteras, Jeff's and Rick's, plus Jim's Abarth. It counts, it is Italian.

The weather was wonderful for the event!  There was no Sacramento summer heat that can occur during the Festa weekend.  There was plenty of shade, cool beverages, Italian food and entertainment.

This was a special occasion for Rick's grandson Zach.  It was his first time being a Pantera guy with this grandfather.  We hope that he had a good time on his first Pantera outing.

We hope that Capitol Panteras gets invited back next August, despite the low turn out this year.

A Trip to the California Auto Museum

by Rick Carlile

Last Friday Marcia, our two Grandkids (Lily 11 & Zach 8), and I made an outing to the California Automobile Museum.  The 4 of us all got free admission because of our Capitol Panteras Club membership.  At first the museum receptionist didn’t want to let Marcia in for free because her name isn’t listed in the Sponsors Binder, just mine.  But I told him that all of the Club spouses are members too since it’s a family membership.  After all, “Membership Has Its Privileges”.  So, he shrugged and said okay.

We got our own free personal docent and toured the whole museum.  I’d been there several times before, but this time with a docent.  I learned a lot of interesting facts about the cars and the museum that I never knew before.  The docent told us that he had to go through a 6-month docent training course.  He said it was like going back to college.  Marcia and I had a great time…..the G-kids not so much, even though the museum has lots of interactive displays.  So, we took the kids to Old Sacramento for lunch at Joe’s Crabshack and everything took a turn for the positive.  I’ve attached a photo of the four of us sitting in one of the museum’s interactive display cars.

Meeting Notes

The August Capitol Pantera meeting was held at Coco's. Those in attendance were: President John, newsletter editors Jim and Emilia, Nancy & Mike, Sue, Mila, Duane & Darice, John Drago.  Rick was in Monterey getting ready to race at the historics.  He invited any CP members who attend the races to stop by and visit his pit area.  Henry was attending a reunion on the East Coast.

Sue reported on the progress of the display, tasting and dinner at Frasinetti's Winery on Saturday, September 12.  Please contact Sue if you are able to RSVP.  She needs to know your dinner choice.  Please refer to the attached dinner flier for details.

If your Pantera is not currently operational, your daily driver is welcome.  Members of PCNC have been invited to join CP members at this dinner.

President John wants to make the June Capitol Pantera meeting at the California Auto Museum an annual event.  The group voted to do this.

The members also voted to renew the club membership in the ACCC.  This group keeps tabs on the California legislature when it comes to the collector car hobby.

President John would also like to try setting up some joint meetings with other car clubs in the area.  At our September meeting the group will be given several different car club options.  We will rank them and President John will try to set up a joint meeting with one of the clubs.  The name of the club that agrees to a joint meeting with us will be sent to CP members along with date, time and location of the joint October meeting.

A date was selected for the 2014 Capitol Panteras Christmas party.  The party will be held on Saturday, December 13.  If you would like to host this years Holiday party, please notify President John or Newsletter editors Jim & Emilia.  The date was chosen so it does not conflict with the PCNC party.

It was announced that the 2015 POCA Fun Rally will be held in Houston.  The dates are May 14 thru May 18.  More details will be forth coming as the date approaches.  But it is known that there will be an open track event at the Texas Motor Speedway and to the Houston NASA facility are among some of the activities that await the Fun Rally attendees.

There will be another Dreams & Drivers event for Prostate Cancer.  It will be on  November 16th, in Elk Grove.  As you know, we lost member John Worseley to that disease last year.  John's widow, Alice, will be driving John's newly restored Bricklin to that event.  So please save the date to be able to come out and visit with Alice and the Bricklin.

There were no Panteras or other Club cars at the meeting, so we did not do the "Driving for Gas" drawing.  There was a raffle for a $20 O'Reily gift card.  The winner was Jim.  Next month we will have a couple of raffle prizes.  One will be a set of small prints of automobiles by a noted artist.

John put on his Treasurer hat and handed out an accounting of club funds.  This was a club first in all the years that John has been our treasurer.  We are solvent with $1812.37 in the bank.
