August Meeting Notes
By Jim Seiferling
The July meeting of Capitol Panteras was held at Mimi’s. We had 11 people attending. Rick Carlile and Steve Christiansen drove their Panteras and Rick won the driving for dollars prize money for the second month in a row. We did do a raffle and Steve won a $20 gift card to AutoZone.
President John said we all need to get our registrations completed for the Niello Concourse at Serrano, Sunday October 2nd.
All Pantera, Mangusta, Longchamp, Vallelunga, Deauville, and Innocenti owners are invited to attend the concours since DeTomaso is the featured marque. There will be at least four classes of cars for the judging, with Steve Wilkinson and Mike Drew serving as judges. John promised the organizers a big turnout for the event, so let’s all go online and get registered. http://www.nielloconcoursatserrano.com/entry-info.html
There was much discussion around the table. The various topics included the following.
The current status of POCA leadership
President Michael Short has resigned after much turmoil. Apparently the clubs bylaws allow the board to appoint people to fill any openings on the board until the next regular scheduled elections. POCA members should be receiving e-mails as the situation changes.
Monterey Weekend
Rick Carlile will be racing his TVR at Laguna Secca. He reported that one of the cars in his race group will be driven by pro driver Boris Said. Carl Stein is not racing his Trans Am Shelby this year but will be part of the pit crew for another racer. Lori and Mike Drew are planning to attend a variety of event that weekend. No one else at the meeting currently has plans to attend.
Lemons Race
Lori Drew reported on her experiences racing at the Lemons race at Thunder Hill. While not finishing as high as desired, a good time was had at the race. Lori told the group of many of the funny and crazy things that took place at the race.
Panteras for Sale
Paul Bowden’s Pantera is in storage in Sacramento and is for sale. The asking price is $65,000. There has not been much advertising for this car. The car is not on display, only in storage, so it not readily available for inspection. This is the car with the twin superchargers.
Concourse at Serrano
The majority of people at the meeting have signed up online for the event. President John encouraged everyone to sign up for the event. There was some talk of a Pantera dinner on Saturday night but the exact details were vague at best. If any information more certain develops, it will be passed along to those who will have their Panteras at the event.
Club Christmas Party
The topic of the club Christmas party came up late in the meeting. The restaurant where we went last year is closed. No one was too sad or surprised to hear this. Rudy’s was suggested. It has good food, several different sized private rooms, and plenty of parking. Several local car clubs meet at Rudy’s on a monthly base. President John asked John Drago to check it out for the club.
