Euro Sunday, January
28th.
by Emilia Seiferling
The weather had been cold for most of January, so the thought of getting
up early on Sunday morning to drive to a parking lot and stand out in the
cold did not appeal to me. But as most of you know, I can be bought with
the promise of a good meal out! So we were up and on the road early.
The rain had not continued, but the roads were wet. The conditions were
right for fog along the river route to Sacramento, Highway 160, and we were down
to 45 MPH in places. We never really found any sunshine until the drive
home after Euro Sunday.
We arrived at this months venue in Elk Grove (It's a Grind parking
lot on Elk Grove Blvd.) to find that Lamar Fairchild and John Worseley had
already arrived. We were directed to park in the area reserved for
Exotics/High End Cars. The organizers were trying to "group" cars for
a more orderly appearance for the visitors. The parking groups were:
Exotic/High End Cars, Vintage/pre-1990 cars, and Euro Cars. The
parking plan was sent with the e-mail notice of the event, but we had been
unsure which area to park in with the Pantera. Were we Vintage or
Exotic? We did look good in the prime parking area (close to the
coffee). We were later joined by Henry Kirk in his Pantera and
Glen Cramer in his Lamborghini. So the final count was three
Panteras, a Lamborghini, and the Bricklin. The Bricklin was
designated a Vintage car for parking purposes.
We chatted briefly outside then went inside to warm up and to get
our morning coffee. Topics discussed inside included: how well or
poorly everyone's heater was working, It's a Grind vs. Starbucks for coffee
quality, and future CP activities. We were joined by Terry Morofsky, minus
his Pantera. He is having some chrome work done and had loose wiring
hanging out of the body. After warming up, we ventured outside to
view the cars. It was then that we met up with Glen Cramer and his
son Miles. Glen has sold both his Pantera and his Mangusta, but may
be looking for another Pantera as a project car. We also got a glimpse of
Claudio Zampolli. He is the designer of an Italian super car the Cizeta Moroder V16T . See the following link
for more info; http://www.angelfire.com/de/moroder/cizetamoroder.html
Jim and I were greeted by friends Paul & Judy Spangler who live in
Elk Grove. They came out with their grandson to view the cars. Paul
is a car guy who has restored his own 1949 pickup in the past and is
currently looking for a new project car to redo. This Euro Sunday is a
good way to get some friends out to see you and the cars. So everyone
should tell their friends about this free car event.
It will list dates, locations, parking patterns, etc.
After Euro Sunday, John, Lamar, Henry, Jim & myself went off to
breakfast. Jim had found two possible restaurants in Elk Grove, after
doing a web search. The Cornerstone and The Old Town Grill, both on Elk
Grove Blvd. Glen was unable to join us but gave the thumbs up for The Old
Town Grill as the place to go. So the three Panteras and the Brinklin
headed out to breakfast. The Old Town Grill is small, but the meals are
big. The service was good, only one mix-up was discovered at the end of
the meal. Lamar and Jim had their omelets switched!
Lamar mentioned that his meal was too spicy and Jim thought that his pretty
mild for a New Orleans omelet. That was when they figured the mistake
out! Other than that minor goof, the place was good and worth a return
trip.

Terry (John was talking to someone elsewhere, go
figure!)
Meeting Notes
- February 13, 2007
The second meeting of 2007 brought out
three Panteras. The recently finished orange Pantera of John McNamee, the
red Pantera of Tom Vona, (also recently out of the shop), and the white
Pantera of Jim Seiferling. As the weather improves, we expect to have more
Club cars in the parking lot of Mimi's! Other members present
were: Kathy Vona, John Worsley, Henry Kirk, Mike Drew, Emilia
Seiferling, Lamar Fairchild and son Rob, Rick Moseley, Ken Montgomery, Carl
Stein. Jeff Bundelli came to bring parts to John McNamee but went home to
avoid giving the rest of us his bug. We were joined later in the evening
by Mike Rockich, of Napa, who is looking to buy a Pantera. He happened to
seated next to Mike Drew, so he got plenty of information. After the
meeting, Jim took Mike for a short spin around the block.
A raffle was held, netting the club
$13. The winner of the gift card from Kragens
was Jim. Lamar won a second prize of a cap with a newly
patented built-in sunglass holder.
Capitol Panteras was the winner of the
POCA article contest for 2006. The Club received a $250 check for our first
place on the podium! Not too shabby for such a small POCA
chapter!
Autorama had two cars from the Capitol
Panteras. John McNamee and Jeff Budelli had their Panteras in the
show. We have a couple of photos of John's car, but none of Jeff's
car. John reported that Jeff won first place and John took
second place, in the "Mild Exotic"category. We are still waiting for the
story that John is writing for the CP newsletter. Look for it in a future
issue of the CP Newsletter.
Lamar reported that the plans for the
Placerville Run include a poker run, a trivia contest for the passengers,
and prizes!! The day's drive will start in Cameron Park at noon and end
up at "Poor Reds" for a 2 PM lunch (That is when the restaurant opens for
business.) The date is set for Saturday, May 19. Look for more
details as the date approaches. Please mark you calendar
now!
It appears that those who attend the
Euro Sunday gathering enjoy going to Brunch afterward. That will
continue for those who show up. This will continue to be very informal and
depending on who and how many can attend. John W. suggested a
possible new place to try at the next EuroSunday at the Pavilions. "Roxy"
is just down the road from the gathering place at the
Pavilions.
Tom Vona has offered to stage a drive to
Bodega Bay. We are looking at a possible September date for that
event. Tom did a great job setting up last November's
Sausalito drive and the Club Christmas
party.
We have not yet heard back from the
Reno-Tahoe Panteras for a joint brunch run date this
year.
Lamar's son Rob is a Police officer in
Stockton. He offered to check on a mobile-dyno source that his
department has used. If he can set it up, the price will be
great. We would do it at the April Tech session. Look for a
follow up in next months CP Newsletter.
John's newly finished car, being
setup at the Autorama show.
Wanted: Articles for CP Newsletter
If you have attended a car function of any
type, please write about your car adventures and send it to jes@riverdeltawireless.com to be
included in the next Capitol Pantera newsletter. If
newsletter articles are not received, then it will be more of Jim &
Emilia's automotive adventures or "The Motoring Mouth".
