If My Body Were A Car

received from Capitol Panteras member, Henry Kirk

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ... But that's not the worst of it.

My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close.

My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.

It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.

But here's the worst of it --

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or laugh.....

either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

Slight Pantera Content

Looking for Pantera Hams

by Jim Seiferling, WB6BET

After a 40 year hiatus, I recently reacquired my ham radio license.  I was first licensed when I was 13 years old.  I let my license lapse(dumb move!), while I was in college.  About 6 months ago, while visiting a long time ham friend(K6PJ) in Bozeman, Montana, he suggested that I should get my license again.  After about a month of studying, I took both the technician and general class tests, at the same time, and passed both.  After I received my computer generated call sign from the FCC, KI6TWL, I applied for a "vanity" call sign with the call I had 45 years ago, WB6BET.  Fortunately it was still available, and was reassigned to me.

I'm having a blast.  In about 2 months I've made contact with 46 states, the District of Columbia, and 6 countries including Russia.  Funny thing is, of the 4 states I still need, one of them is Nevada!  The high point so far, was making contact with the ham station on board the USS Missouri, in Pearl Harbor, on Dec 7th(Pearl Harbor Day).  Pretty cool in my book!  My contact with a Russian ham, named Andy with perfect English, was also a treat.

Now the slight Pantera content.  I know that PCNC member Jim Murch(AA6M) and his wife Barbara(WD6ERQ) are hams.  I'm sure there must be other ham Pantera owners out there, and I would be interested in creating a sub group of Pantera/Ham radio owners.  If you know of any, please pass their name and contact information to me.

Thank you, all.  Jim.

Summary of the January 2009 Capitol Panteras Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Capitol Panteras found only one Club car in the parking lot of Mimi's - so Jeff  was the uncontested winner of the "Driving for Gas Money" drawing.  Those in attendance but without their Club Car were: Rick Carlile, Mike Drew, Lamar Fairchild, Nancy Foster and Chuck, John McNamee., Ken Montgomery, Rick Moseley, Jim & Emilia, and John Worsley.

We welcomed a new CP member, Spencer Johnson of Lebanon Oregon.  Spencer is Lamar's friend and Lamar gave him the membership for Christmas.  Welcome Spencer.  Lamar will get us Spencer's e-mail so that he can receive the CP newsletter.

The raffle was won by Ken.  He received a $20 gift card from Kragen.  Treasurer John reported that all outstanding bills were paid, with the exception of the CP Christmas party.  All he needs is a bill from Dennis and Patty so he can pay it.

We reported that we had received an e-mail from Henry wishing us all a Happy New Year.  He was unsure when he would be back in Sacramento, but he would try to make a meeting if possible.  He took a 1 year job in China Lake, Ca.

Mike Drew announced that PCNC will be hosting a Super Bowl Party.  You can check out their web-site for details about the Feb. 1st. gathering.

John Worsley announced that he and Alice are now grandparents!  They have their first grandchild, a girl.  Congratulations John and Alice.

The group went over the Calendar for the 2009 year. Several dates were set, a couple of events were modified and several members agreed to Chair CP events.  Please note the following modification:  The Thunder Valley Brunch Run will be held in May after the EuroSunday honoring DeTomaso on Sunday, May 10.  John W. has agreed to arrange the Brunch Run.  The Tech Session at Rick's shop has been set for Saturday, April 18.  Jeff will chair the Festa Italiana Car Display, on Sunday, August 2.
