Capitol Panteras Christmas Party
December 3, 2011
by Emilia Seiferling
The 2011 Capitol Pantera Christmas party was hosted by Sue and Garry Choate at their home in Wilton.
The party was a semi-planned potluck, by that I mean Sue prepared the main core of the meal, ham, potato, salad, and green beans with the rest of the meal being brought by the guests. There were plenty of munchies, extra side dishes and desserts. Since it was BYOB we had exactly what we wanted to drink and share. Anyone who was unable to attend missed a great party. There was plenty of food and drink, lots of conversation and an entertaining gift exchange. I should have written this article sooner, but as I recall the gift exchange was great fun. The DeTomaso afghan went home with Nancy Haney. John Worsley had tried to get it for his granddaughter, but he failed to retain the afghan. I latter told him that I would make a toddler-size afghan for her. There was some trading of gifts, after the fact, and I promised an afghan for Lori in exchange for a gift that I wanted. Since I was busy being social at the party there are no photos of the event, you'll just have to take my word for it that it was a fun night. It was such a good time that about half the party attendees spent the night and part of the next day! Jim and I headed for home that night, so I don't know the brunch menu but I would assume it included some variation of ham and potatoes.
The entire Capitol Panteras group thanks Sue and Garry for being great hosts. We really appreciate them stepping forward to welcome the group into their home.
Summary of the January 2012 Capitol Panteras
Meeting
The January meeting had one club car in the parking lot, John McNamee's Pantera. We had a record of 18 attending the meeting; Jim & Emilia Seiferling, John McNamee, Ken Montgomery, John Worsley, Henry Kirk, Duane & Darice Harlan, Garry & Sue Choate, Mike & Nancy Haney, Lori Albino, Mike Drew, Paul Bowden, Rick Carlile, Curt Hall, Peter Kovacs.
Treasurer John reported we have $1,257. We received Associated member dues from Mike, Ken, & John.
With those dues plus the raffle for tonight, we now have $1,344.
Paul Bowden will be returning to Capitol Panteras from PCNC, since he recently changed jobs. He will now be back in his West Sacramento home. Welcome back Paul.
The "Driving for Gas $" drawing was not held because we need at least 2 club cars to hold the drawing. Sorry John.
A raffle was held for an O'Reilly's gift card. Lori was the winner this month. We made $27 profit. There was a second last minute addition to the raffle. Emilia donated one of her handmade pet afghans. The winner of the pet afghan was Henry. For those of you who don't know, Henry "rescues" cats. So the pet blanket will be a cat blanket for Annie (aka Anastasia) who is very ill.
The last of the POCA Fun Rally raffle prizes that CP won at Reno last year was sold to Nancy, Jim did not bring the wheel well rubber to the meeting, but Nancy will get it next meeting. The Club sold all items at half of retail.
The group went over the events calendar for 2012 one month at a time. The calendar at the end of this newsletter reflects what was discussed. If you had been a chairman in the past and were not in attendance we assumed that you would again agree be in charge of an event. That would include Jeff- Festa Italiana, Lamar- Placerville run, Don & Kathy- Foothills run. Several other suggestions for drives which have not yet been scheduled include a Red Hawk Brunch run which John Worsley will check into that, a picnic in a park day which Jim will follow up on, and Mike Drew is in charge of arranging a Joint Brunch Run with Reno-Tahoe Panteras. Ken also mentioned that after the DeLorean calendar is set that there might be events that the CP group would be welcome to join. Since our Club does not have an event coordinator, if you have an idea please bring your event idea to any meeting or email us. We thank all who stepped up to chair a CP activity this year.
Jim & Emilia announced that this will be their last year as co-presidents of Capitol Panteras. They feel that after nine years it is time for a change in the leadership of the Club. The nominations for new officers will be in September and the election for new chapter officers will be at the October 2012 meeting.
Emilia made good on her promise from the Christmas party. She gave John Worsley the afghan for his granddaughter. It turns out that Claire will have her third birthday in a few days. Happy Birthday to Claire.
Sue was given a pet afghan for her cat Princess. Princess was in attendance at the CP Christmas party and enchanted all who met her.
The Club sends their get better quick wishes to Don. He is recovering from a broken leg and stomach problems that developed while in the hospital for the leg. We also hope that Lamar is feeling better. He has been dealing with some heart issues.
We forgot to mention at the meeting that Mike & Lori are engaged. Congratulations to both of you.
