The Cobra Experience Trip
January 17, 2016
By Emilia Seiferling
It was a wet morning as Jim and I left home for the Bay Area. It was way too wet for the Pantera and the Abarth was waiting on new tires to arrive, so we were in the truck going to the event arranged by EuroSunday at the Cobra Experience in Martinez. The Cobra Experience is a non-profit museum committed to the promotion, conservation, education, and preservation of the cars produced by Shelby America. We had been told that this would be a good event to attend and that turned out to be true. They are in a nondescript business park and it is one of the biggest collections of Cobras we have ever seen. There were over 20 cars on display. The vehicles help trace the history of Shelby America in photos, artifacts, and memorabilia. There is also an 18 minute movie covering the early years, 1962 to 1971, of the Cobra (don’t miss the movie on your visit). The weather cut down on the quality of the “car show” in the parking lot, since most in attendance drove their daily driver to the museum on this rainy day. You can check it out at www.cobraexperience.org to find out more about the museum. This is definitely a must do visit. Note that it’s only open on the 3rd Sunday of each month and only from 11am to 4pm. The admission price is very reasonable.
The impressive entry area; first class all the way
A very impressive engine row

January Meeting Notes
The January meeting of Capitol Panteras was held at Mimi’s. We had only 7 members attending. Those attending were; Jim & Emilia Seiferling, Mike & Lori Drew, John & Beth Drago, and Ken Montgomery. We had no Panteras in the parking lot, thus there was no driving for gas dollars money.
Since we were missing President/Treasurer John, there was no formal business conducted. The restaurant was not expecting our group so we ended up being seated in a regular dining area of the restaurant. There was much auto related conversation at the table. Those who attended the CP Christmas party at the Slough House Inn reported on the evening. There were 17 at the Christmas dinner. While everyone basically enjoyed the party, the spotty service and inconsistent food did affect the overall enjoyment of the evening. I think another location will be selected for next Christmas. The POCA Fun Rally was discussed. Lori and Mike reported that the Sunnyvale Coco’s, the meeting place for PCNC for 30 years, was closed without notice at Christmas time. Mike said the group had been served by the same waiter for the entire 30 years! PCNC will be meeting in several different area restaurants while they look for a new meeting location. The Euro-Sunday Cobra gathering in Martinez was discussed. Mike said that the collection was not to be missed. He had visited the location while on a Shelby Club drive. Ken is working on his shop building and looking forward to when he will have more time to enjoy it. Mike again spoke about leading a drive in the future. It could be either a day trip or an over night outing. He needs his work schedule to allow him more flexibility to plan the event. Lori told the group about the passing of Princess. For those of you who may not know, Princess was the much loved cat of Sue and Garry Choate. You probably met Princess if you attended one of the CP Christmas parties, in the past, hosted by the Choate’s. Princess was a rescue cat and lived to be over 20 years old. All animal lovers will know the loss that is felt when you lose a dear pet. Hopefully there will be a larger attendance for the next CP meeting.
