Summary of the July 2012 Capitol Panteras Meeting

The July meeting had only daily driver cars in the parking lot. So there was no winner of "Driving for Gas Money".The high heat in Sacramento played a big part in the vehicle choice of people.  Attending this month's meeting were; Jim & Emilia Seiferling, Garry & Sue Choate, Jeff Budelli, John Worsley, Paul Bowden.

We did do the raffle as was promised, despite the low attendance.  We had two unique items for the raffle.  We had a DeTomaso hat and a DeTomaso apron.  Both were special items from John's DeTomaso line of items, which he makes at his shop.  Thank you John!  Those of you not at the meeting will have to purchase your items from John's website.   Emilia was the happy winner of the apron, with the hat going home with John Worsley.  Even with a small group in attendance, we took in $20 for the Club.  That will cover the cost of two months of "Driving for Gas Money".  All we need is Club cars and their drivers at the meeting!

Jeff gave a report on the 2012 Festa Italiana.  We are set to be the featured Italian car on display on Sunday, August 5th.  We need to have members step up and commit to this event.  Please e-mail Jim at jes@riverdeltawireless to confirm that you will be driving you Pantera to the event.  Jeff also asked that we pass the word to friends that have Italian motorcycles and non-Pantera Italian cars that may want to display their vehicles at the Festa.  For those of you who have not attended this event before, this is a very good way to spend a Sunday.  The cars and drivers/passengers are given free entrance and priority parking.  There is music, entertainment, food, and shopping.  There is plenty of shade and free drink tickets for those who display their cars.  We need to give a final head count to Jeff by Wednesday, August 1st.  The cars will meet at Mimi's parking lot and caravan to the Festa.  We leave promptly at 10:15 AM in order to be parked at the festa by 10:30 AM.

The group was reminded that officer elections are set for October.  The member elected president must be a POCA member.  There was some discussion at a prior meeting that the POCA dues of the President be paid by the Club as an incentive to be club President.  No final decision has been made on the topic.  More discussion will continue at the next meeting.

The CP Christmas party date has been set for Saturday, December 1.  Please mark your calendars to keep the date free.  Paul Bowden is our host this year, at his West Sacramento home.  Details on the party will be forth coming, as we get closer to December.

Conversations from the July 2012 CP meeting

As mentioned earlier in this month's newsletter, the attendance was low.  This was nice in one way, as it led to good conversations.  The following are some of the highlights of those conversations at the table.

We read the e-mail from Rick, which was received just prior to the meeting, about his most recent Historic racing adventure.  Here it is for all to read.

Hey Jim & Emilia,

Sorry, I wonít be able to make it to the meeting tonight.  Marcia and I just got back late last night from our racing the TVR up in Seattle and Portland for the last two weeks.

At the end of the All British Car Race in Seattle I broke the RR lower A-arm suspension mount and chassis tube, so DNF.  The car was loaded onto the J&L Racing Fabrications transporter, taken to Puyallup WA for welding repairs and tube replacement, and then delivered to me at the track in Portland the day before the races.  On Sundayís feature race there were 31 cars in the Under 2.0 Liter Class.  The TVR finished 8th.  Tomorrow night Iíll start preparing the car for the Monterey Historics.  Hope to see some of the Pantera folks there!!!

See you next month.

Garry had thought about driving their Camero to the meeting, but the car has heat issues when not going quickly on the freeway.  It doesn't like to go slowly on surface streets.

Jeff was the only person to not have issues with his Pantera air-conditioning, but he came directly from work in the daily driver.  He is getting ready to make the trip to Sturges this summer.

Jim also opted for air-conditioning, so he drove the truck, which has great cooling.  The air on the white Pantera did not work when we bought it.

Ken let us know by e-mail  that he and Judy were trying to keep cool by getting away to Donner Lake for a few days.

Paul has similar issues with slow surface streets and heat.  But he did report that he has a number of parts on order.  These questionable parts were found at the CP tech session, at Rick's shop in April.

Emilia reported that she has yet to take delivery on her new Fiat 500 Abarth.  So it may be true that it was 48 weeks not the 4 to 8 weeks that we were quoted from the dealer.  We are at 8 weeks and counting.

John reported that he had some medical issues last month that resulted in him missing the June meeting.

It was extremely rare for John to miss a meeting.  We are glad to hear he is doing fine now.

Lamar sent an e-mail that he would not be at the July meeting due to a medical consult with a specialist at UCLA.  We hope Lamar gets some good news about his treatment options.

An e-mail from Mike Drew explained why he and Lori were not at the meeting.  They were in France at the Historic Le Mans gathering.  They had been with John & Sue who were now off to Germany.

Merry Dalcino phoned us on July 14th, with the correct date for the Alameda Italian Car Show.

It is October 7th, not the 14th as was in previous newsletters.  Thank you Merry!

We received this from Jeff Swain, at the EuroSunday group.  To see the flyer mentioned go to the Murer House website;   Click on the "Special Events" link on the right side of their home page.
