The Passing of Don Gagnon

by Jim & Emilia Seiferling

We received word Monday, from Kathy, that Don passed away Sunday the 7th of complications from the fall he suffered 18 months ago. Don requested that no services be held. Everyone at the meeting was shocked and sends their condolences to Kathy and their son Dan.  We will all miss his enthusiasm for the Pantera and cars in general.

Memorial for John Worsley

I went to John Worsley's celebration of lie on Sunday, June 30th.  It was a nice gathering with about 60 people in attendance.  Several of our club members also showed up.  They had some of Johns photographs on display, really nice photos!

--Carl Stein

We're sorry we weren't able to attend, as we were in Bozeman, MT on the 30th.

--Jim & Emilia Seiferling

Editors note; Henry Kirk, John McNamee, George Potiris, Lamar Fairchild & Mila, and Mike & Nancy Haney also attended the memorial for John.  Paul Bowden and Ken Montgomery were out of the area and unable to attend.  We think that John's Bricklin will have the restoration completed and members of the Bricklin club will assist Alice in finding a buyer for it.

Pantera Drive & BBQ

Hosted by Ken & Laura Whittall-Scherfee

Here is the Schedule for the Day:

8:45 a.m.  Meet at the parking lot of the Aerospace Museum of California, located just east of the Coast Guard Air Station at McClellan.   Address is 5200 Freedom Park Drive, North Highlands, California (near Watt and Greenback).

9:15 a.m.  Depart for driving tour of the foothills.  Route TBD based on who shows up, where we want to go, where roads are not torn up, and where we can travel to in about 35 minutes from the Museum.

10:30 a.m.  Return to Parking Lot at the Museum.

10:45 a.m.  Caravan from Museum to the west side of McClellan.  Group entry

through the Winters Gate entry for access to Ken's hangar for our Bar-B-Kue!  Nice bathrooms are near Ken's hangar.

11:00 a.m.  Set up for Bar-B-Kue (tables and chairs), pull out airplane.

11:30 a.m.  Ken starts burning hamburgers and other meats.

12:00 Noon - ?  Eat, tell lies, admire cars, tell more lies, and clean up.

Laura and I will provide burgers, buns, condo-mints (mustard, ketchup,

mayo, salt and pepper), sodas and water.

Folks are invited and urged to bring other stuff to eat.  We'll use the last name

shuffle, as follows, based on the First Letter of your last name, thusly:

A - H:  Snacks, appetizers, jalapeno poppers, etc.

I - P:  Salad (lettuce or fruit or pasta) or other side dish.

Q - Z:  Dessert (the healthiest part of any meal).

We have a refrigerator at the hangar, so anyone bringing food needing

cooling may hand the food to Laura between 8:45 and 9:15 a.m. at the Museum

Parking Lot.  Laura will take all the food and put it in the 'fridge at the Hangar so

it will stay cold until noon.

Anyone getting lost or confused should call Ken at 916.295.9081 (Cell).  If you

get stuck at the Winters gate, call Ken on your cell phone and I'll give you instructions to get in (I will buzz you in).

'See you on Saturday, July 27!

After we're done, interested folks could go back to the Museum and take a tour.

Go do this if you have not been there--lots of cool motor-head stuff.

PLEASE call Ken at 916.966.9701 or shoot me an e-mail at to let us know how many to plan for.

Please do so by Saturday, July 20, 2013.  Thanks.

Meeting Notes

President George ran the July meeting. He thanked those members who had presided in his absence at past meetings.  George had been committed with Boy Scout activities.

We had 9 people present this month.  Those attending were; Emilia & Jim Seiferling,  Paul Bowden, Rick Carlile, Lamar Fairchild & Mila, John McNamee, Ken Montgomery, George Potiris.

Driving for Dollars:
Lamar brought his Rousch Mustang, Rick Carlile drove his Panteras.  Rick won the drawing for $10.00.

The raffle was a De Tomaso duffle bag.  Lamar was the very happy winner.

The yearly activity schedule was reviewed.  Rick raced at Portland and finished sixth.

Ken attended the EuroSunday that was held in Folsom.  He reported the event  was a bit different in that there was raffle to benefit a cancer charity and he won two items; a bottle of Sake and a barrel tasting for six at a winery near Placerville.  Maybe Ken will take some of us to the tasting?

Jeff reported, via John, that Festa Italiana is a go.  Jeff will meet those attending at 10:15 AM, in the Mimi's parking lot, then caravan to the event.  Departure time from Mimi's is 10:30 AM.  Rick will drive his Pantera.  Jim will be in the Fiat 500 Abarth.  Anyone else who wants to attend should let Jeff know.  The event is on Sunday, August 4.  This is a fun, easy event that is great PR for the Capitol Panteras.  Remember, you get free admittance by displaying your Italian car, plus drink tickets!

Emilia read an email from Ken Whittall-Scherfee about the Saturday, July 27 BBQ and drive.  The email has been reprinted in this newsletter.  The event will be at his airplane hanger at McClellan, and then be followed by a drive and time to visit the museum at McClellan.  Please contact Ken to RSVP.  A head count will be needed.

The wheels from Jim's old black Pantera are for sale.  15" Etole's, 8" & 10", with tires (225 front / 295 rear).  The price is $200 per unit.  If you're interested contact Jim at
