Meeting Notes

The July meeting of Capitol Panteras was held at Mimi’s. We had 10 attending.  Those attending were: John McNamee, Ron Southern, Mike & Nancy Haney, Rick Carlile, Jim & Emilia Seiferling, John & Beth Drago, & Ken Montgomery.  We had 2 Panteras (John Drago and Rick Carlile) in the parking lot.  The “Driving for Gas Money” was awarded to John, because President John declared that Rick arrived too late.  We did have a raffle, with the prizes being a gift card, shirt & hat, and cupcakes made by Emilia.

We had a discussion about our raffle prizes.  It was decided that we would do gift cards as the main item.  Members were encouraged to donate other items as additional prizes.  They should be automobile related items (no rusty car parts!), such as the shirt & hat donated at this meeting by Ron.  The cupcakes this week were extras left over after everyone present received a “July Birthday” cupcake that Emilia made. The cupcakes were Italian cream cupcakes with coconut cream cheese frosting.  Emilia and Jim both have July birthdays.  Happy birthday!

Rick had missed a couple of CP meetings, so he gave us an update of how his racing season has gone at Coronado, California and The Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas.  Rick races a red 1969 TVR Vixen S2.

August 2nd is our day at the Festa Italiana in Sacramento.  We are set to be the featured Italian car on display on Sunday, August 2nd.  We need to have members step up and commit to this event.  Please e-mail Jim at jes@riverdeltawireless.com  to confirm that you will be driving your Pantera or Italian car to the event.  For those of you who have not attended this event before, this is a very good way to spend a Sunday.  The cars and drivers/passengers are given free entrance and priority display parking.  There is music, entertainment, food, and shopping.  There is plenty of shade and free drink tickets for those who display their cars.  The long term weather forecast is for 99 degrees; a hot one.  We need to give a final head count to Paul Petrali, the car chairman at the Festa, by Wednesday, July 29th.  We will meet at the east end of Mimi's parking lot (in front of Chick-fil-A) and caravan to the Festa.  We will leave promptly at 10:30 AM, in order to be parked at the Festa before 11 AM.  The location is Croatian Park, 3730 Auburn Boulevard, only a 10 minute drive down the freeway from Mimi’s parking lot.  http://festaitalianasacramento.com/Festa/Festa_Italiana.html

President John reminded everyone about the Serrano Concourse October 4th.  This year DeTomaso will be a special display.  Next year DeTomaso will be the featured marque, so we need a good showing of Panteras for the Concourse.

Movie at the Fox

July 17, 2015

On Friday, July 17, Jim and I went to the movies.  Why you might ask is that anything to write about in the CP newsletter?  Well, it was a car evening.  The movie was “American Graffiti” and there was a period correct car show in front of the Fox Theater, which is also a period correct theater for the movie.  “American Graffiti” was set in Modesto, 1962, where producer/director George Lucas grew up.  It was filmed mainly in Petaluma. The Wolf Man Jack radio scene was filmed at radio station KRE, in Berkeley. Some of you might remember the Wolf Man broadcasting from radio station XERB The Mighty 1090, in Mexico.  We were also treated to a “Pink Panther” car themed cartoon.

For those of you who might not know about the Fox Theater, it was restored several years ago to its former glory.  Jim and I helped with the restoration and installation of the Robert Morton theater organ.  If you think keeping your Pantera operational is tough, that’s nothing compared to the thousands of moving parts and electrical connections in this 1928 pipe organ (1,569 pipes) working without a single fault!  The theater is now back to being a center piece for entertainment in downtown Stockton.  There are both live and film presentations at the Fox.  You can check out the entire lineup of upcoming events at the website.  http://www.stocktonlive.com/venues/detail/bob-hope-theatre

We have attended many of these classic films.  We plan to go to a couple more movies this summer and fall; “Superman”, and “Ghostbusters”.  It is fun to see these old classic films on a big screen. There is always a pre-movie 30 minute organ concert, cartoon, and free door prizes; all for only $8 per person.  There is no need to pre-purchase tickets.  The theater has 2,042 seats!

The street rod show had about 25 really nice cars in front of the theater
