Our 2018 car related events
By Jim & Emilia Seiferling
We have been very delinquent keeping the newsletters up to date; our apologies, but we’ve kept quite busy being fully “retired”.
Every day now is an “anything can happen Monday, Tuesday, etc”, (per Sheldon, on The Big Band Theory).
These are just the car (sort of car) related outings we’ve done since last December.
What interesting things have you done this year; wash the cat?

May 8, 2018, Strings
By Jim & Emilia Seiferling
We had a good turn out at the May meeting, with 13 in attendance. John Drago and Rick Carlile drove their Panteras to the meeting. The driving for dollars drawing was done and Rick won the $10 prize. Carl and Rick will both be at the Sonoma Historics, June 1-3, with their respective race cars; Carl’s real Shelby Mustang and Ricks TVR. Carl also announced that the national Shelby convention/races (SAAC 43) will be at Sears Point, August 3-5. We’ll find out at the July meeting if Carl and/or Rick have been invited to the historics at Laguna Seca in August. Tom Leonard talked about his trials and tribulations getting to the fun rally in Las Vegas.
Curt Hall previously volunteered to buy raffle tickets for us at the Las Vegas rally. He brought back a Himalayan salt lamp (who knew?), a butterfly lamp, and a de Tomaso folding chair. No one wanted the two lamps, so Emilia will donate them to a local charity event in Rio Vista this year. The de Tomaso folding chair was auctioned off at the meeting, and Curt Hall was the high bidder at $31.

We always enjoy going to the historics on Friday to visit with Carl and Rick. This was no exception and we found Rick’s paddock in no time. Carl joined us a short while later and we did some “paddock racing”. Kind of like “hanger flying” to pilots, but with race cars. After talking with Rick, we walked with Carl over to his paddock area. When it was time for Carl to get on the track, Jim and another fellow pushed Carl’s Trans-Am Shelby out of the pit into the traffic lane; the engine making an awesome sound like you hear no where else. The sound created by the Can-Am and Trans-Am cars is really “ground pounding”. You need to go to a historic track event at least once a year to get your ears re-calibrated. After watching Carl run and then the fantastic Can-Am cars run, we headed out to get ahead of the Friday highway 37 traffic mess that would soon develop. We’ve learned from past years to leave the track by noon, or be prepared for nasty traffic. We had a very nice Italian lunch at La Strada, on highway 29 just north of the Napa Airport. We were then off to home to beat the heavy Friday highway 12 traffic between Napa and Fairfield. It was one more short, but great, day at the historics with our Pantera friends.

North Ridge Country Club in Fair Oaks
June 12, 2018
By Jim Seiferling
It was a hot June afternoon, but with good A/C in the Fiat Abarth we headed up to Fair Oaks to check out the Raduno. After parking we found that John Drago and John McNamee’s cars were front and center in front of the clubhouse, along with some other nice cars. We walked to the back, where the majority of the exhibit cars were staged. We met Ron Southern walking back up the pathway and he said Lori was also there. We never saw Ron or Lori that evening again. We walked around the exhibited cars with John Drago and then proceeded home. We had dinner before the Raduno, at Palermo Ristorante Italiano, in Elk Grove. It had great reviews on Yelp, but our experience was totally counter to those. Maybe it as a bad day for them, but we won’t be back. A restaurant only gets one chance with us, and we’re pretty sure it wasn’t just an “off day” for them; by the way things went that day.

Meeting Notes, at Strings
July 10, 2018
By Emilia Seiferling
We had 9 people at our July meeting at Strings. Carl reported that he sold his year 2000 winning Trans-Am Mangusta, complete with 4 pallets of spare parts and 15 body panels. It’s going to New Zealand of all places. His big race trailer is up for sale. Henry has been down with vertigo the last couple of months, but has recovered sufficiently to make it to the meeting. President John asked if we’d like to renew our club membership to the California Auto Museum. The consensus at the table was to continue our support of the museum. He also recounted meeting, Ken Caldera of PCNC, at his 40th high school reunion. They both have Panteras now and went to high school together; small world.
George Potiris volunteered to have a club dinner at his house in Elk Grove. After everyone checked their calendars, we decided on September 9th at 5pm. It will be a semi-pot luck with everyone bringing a salad or dessert. George will supply the entrée. Please RSVP to Jim if you will be attending with the side that you will be bringing. So far we have a pasta salad from Sue and a dessert from Emilia.
Rick wasn’t able to make the meeting, but he plans to be racing in Portland, Oregon the weekend of the 28th. Rick is not going Laguna Seca this year. The TVR didn't get accepted this year. A lot of US production cars got squeezed out due to Datsun/Nissan being the Featured Marque. Lots of 510's and 240 Z's filled up the Group. He did send us a photo of their new puppy. You can’t get much happier than that.
Mike Drew sent me the following email. “Sorry we are at Le Mans, just heading to Normandy and not home until Thursday. Lori will be at the winery dinner I think, but I’m flying a C-5 to the Oshkosh air show that weekend—looking forward to that as I’ve never been before.....Mike”. (Jim;how cool is that, going to Oshkosh in a C-5! For those non aviation folks, the Oshkosh Wisconsin fly-in is the largest fly-in in the world. Check it out here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EAA_AirVenture_Oshkosh )
