Meeting Notes

President John was at the helm for the June meeting.  John will not be able to attend the July meeting, so Nancy Haney has stepped up the to plate to run things back at Coco's on July 8.  It should be an interesting meeting!

John announced that Lamar Fairchild had passed away earlier that day.  Lamar had not felt well on Tuesday and went to his physician, who admitted him to the hospital where he passed away on Thursday.  Jim received an email from Lamar on Tuesday, saying they could not attend the meeting.  Lamar did not explain why.  He had been battling a heart condition for a number of years, but we do not know the exact details of this incident.  All of our thoughts are with Mila.  As we find out more information, it will be passed along to our CP members.  Lamar was our tour director on many drives, in the Placerville area and will sorely missed.  Since we started our driving for dollars raffle in 2010, Lamar had won the drawing 9 times.  He drove his Pantera to our meetings many more than that.

The meeting, held at the California Automobile Museum, was well attended.  There were 20 people in attendance.  The food for the meeting was provided by the Club, with President John arranging for pizza and beverages for the group.

The raffle was held with two of the Fun Rally prizes being won by Paul and Dennis.  If you didn't remember, the club voted to buy $200 in raffle tickets at the San Diego POCA Fun Rally to help support POCA.  Since Sue and Garry were going to Fun Rally they were asked to handle the club raffle tickets.  The club ended up winning six items in the POCA raffle!  Two were used as club raffle prizes at the June meeting.  Two were sold to members who wanted them (Mike bought the deTomaso poster and Garry bought door handles).  Two prizes remain; a ladies watch and a deTomaso wall sconce.  If you would like to buy either item, John has them.  If there are no takers, the items will be used as future club raffle prizes.  The Club has already made more that the original cost of the raffle tickets!

While there were four Panteras, a Cobra clone, and our Abarth lined up outside CAM we forgot to do the "Driving for Gas" drawing.  We did have some pictures taken by visitors to the museum. The museum was open to the public until 9 PM that evening.

Boy is our Abarth high!

Garry was the Capitol Pantera representative at the POCA President's breakfast meeting at the Fun Rally.  He reported about the following items from that meeting.  Profiles will become an annual publication instead of a quarterly, but much thicker than the issues we've been receiving.  The POCA Fun Rally will most likely be in San Diego again next year, but both Reno and Central Texas would like to host the event in the future.  The exact location and dates will hopefully be announced in the fall so that members can plan and budget for the POCA Fun Rally.  This year there were ~250 people and ~ 80 cars in attendance in San Diego.

The museum's executive director Karen McClaflin presented the program at our June meeting.  She provided a history of the museum.  She also outlined the future of CAM; land procurement from the City of Sacramento, building maintenance plans, building expansion plans, activities at the museum, and future fund raising to be done by the museum in order for all their goals to be accomplished.  The Capitol Panteras presented CAM with a $500 check to help them meet those goals.  President John would like to see us meet at CAM every June.
