Dinner with Mike & Claude

by Emilia Seiferling

Jim and  I had the opportunity to host Claude Dubois and Mike Drew on Valentine's Day, for dinner.  Claude was in the USA on a car buying trip.  He had spent the day out with Mike looking for cars.  They came over late in the afternoon to check out our second Pantera, #1575.  Mike had planned to take Claude to the Buckhorn Steak & Roadhouse, in Winters, for dinner.  The Buckhorn is an excellent steak house, but not a place to go without reservations, made well in advance, for dinner on February 14!  Since there had been a change in their dinner plans we invited them to join us for dinner.  We haven't gone out for dinner on Valentines Day for many years.  It is too hectic to eat out on that day.  Jim makes an excellent pork loin, with a port, jalapeno, and blue cheese sauce which I love.  We served the guys the same meal that we would have enjoyed anyway.  The conversion was good.  The food and wine were excellent. I was a fortunate women to have Valentines dinner with three gentlemen.  Claude entertained us with his many stories dealing with Alejandro deTomaso, like being fired twice by him.  His best comment of the evening was what a useless gauge the speedometer was!  This was yet another great experience made possible by owning a Pantera.

EuroSunday Photo Shoot

by Jim Seiferling

Near the end of January, I was contacted by Rich Tsai from the EuroSunday group.  He is their photographer and was looking for a red and white Pantera.  The purpose of the shoot was for a calendar they are putting together.  He had seen Terry Morofsky's red car and my white one at one of the EuroSunday events.  I suggested that if he wanted to add a blue car, we had one in our club.  That car belongs to Dennis Gacutan.  My thought was a red, white, and blue trio for the July calendar page.  This will be the end result, but not until they do the 2010 calendar.

The shoot would take place indoors at Dream Car Solutions, in West Sacramento.  Unfortunately, Dennis was going to be out of town on the scheduled shoot day, but he had one of his good friends drive the car to the shoot.  We were all holding our breathe for a non raining day, and mother nature blessed us on that Friday.

After we all arrived, we had a bit of a wait while Rich was finishing a shoot with the Porsche group.  We then moved the cars into the building and then the shoot started.  Murphy struck at this point and Rich was having trouble with his master power supply for his big strobes.  They eventually got it working on a lower power setting and proceeded to shoot group shots and then individual shots of each car.  This took up the entire afternoon and after each car was finished the guys left for home.  I was the last car out, just in time for the 5 PM rush hour traffic out of Sacramento.  The trip home was slower than I had hoped for, but uneventful.  When the calendars are published, I'll send out an email to everyone.

The link below will give you directions to the Thunderhill track located in Willows CA, about 80 miles North of Sacramento on Interstate 5.

http://www.thunderhill.com/html/location.html

The track has food and beverage onsite, we have water and cokes, so come and enjoy the day. Admission is free, sign in at the gate, you are with car #88, GT1 Mangusta. How good can it get in today’s times for a almost no cost day at the races?  Older kids will really love the cars, however everyone should bring ear plugs or protection and sun screen.

See ya at the races,  Carl

                        Wanted: Articles for CP Newsletter

If you have attended a car function of any type, please write about your car adventures and send it to jes@riverdeltawireless.com   to be included in the next Capitol Pantera newsletter.  If newsletter articles are not received, then it will be more of Jim & Emilia's automotive adventures or "The Motoring Mouth"

Summary of the February 2009 Capitol Panteras Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Capitol Panteras found four Club cars in the parking lot of Mimi's.  That meant  a real competition for the "Driving for Gas Money". The winner this month was Lamar, who was competing against Ken, John W., and Jeff.  Those in attendance, but without their Club Car were: Rick Carlile, Nancy and Chuck, Jim & Emilia, Nancy and Mike, John M., Duane and Darice, Dennis, and Bruce Maddox. It was nice to see Bruce who hasn't made a CP meeting in about five years plus!

The raffle was won by John W..  He received a $20 gift card from Kragen. There was a $30 profit from the raffle!  Treasurer John reported that all outstanding bills were now paid, since Dennis was present to receive the check to reimburse for the CP Christmas party.  John also stated that we had received member renewal money from POCA for four members who renewed at the end of 2008.  So if you have not renewed your POCA membership, please do so since CP gets a portion of it.  If you are unsure if you are current please contact Jim and he can reference our chapter reports from POCA and confirm your renewal date.

Jim received an e-mail from the Maserati group.  They are planning a Delta Drive on Saturday, April 4.  We have been invited to join the drive in our Panteras.  The drive starts in Rio Vista at 10 AM at the Chevron station.  They will visit: Locke, Walnut Grove and The Sugar Mill at Clarksburg then return to Rio Vista for lunch at The Point Waterfront Restaurant.  The Point has great views and a large parking area.  Jim and I are planning join the drive.  It can't get much easier for us!  Please contact Gene O'Gorman, eogorman@comcast.net  if you would like to join the drive.  They need a head count for the lunch reservations.

The Italian car shows to be held in Monterey on Friday, August 14 were discussed.  There apparently will be two competing shows!  La Dolce Vita @ Black Horse in Monterey.  Tom Tjaarda will be one of the featured guests.  The show is being presented by the same folks that do "La Belle Machine" at Pocono and the Italian car show at Daytona Speed week.  The price is $50 for the car and driver plus $25 for each additional passenger.  The Concourso Italiano has yet to announce a location, other than it won't be at the Marina Airport again, but the cost is $125 for the car and occupants.  Jim and I are planning to go to La Dolce Vita.  With Tom there, in our minds, the choice of events is obvious.

You can check out their web site at   http://www.montereybayconcours.com/

Also the featured marque at the Historic Races is Porsche.  It should be really interesting what the factory brings out to the event.

The EuroSunday Marque, that features DeTomaso, is May 10.  That is Mother's Day, so we have cancelled the Brunch run to Thunder Valley, after EuroSunday.  Instead we will make a reservation at another restaurant for those who are able to go to Brunch.  Several people have stated that they have a problem with the Mother's Day schedule of EuroSunday.  If you can bring your car for the "show" then need to get back to family, that is fine.  The show should be over by 9:30 - 10:00 AM.  We hope to have a good turn out so as to not be embarrassed.  We will get a head count for Brunch reservations at the April CP meeting.

The reservation forms are out in the most recent POCA newsletter for The Reno Fun Rally. Jim & I have already sent in our paperwork, made hotel reservations, and marked our calendars.  The dates are June 10-14.   Please try to make all or part of this Pantera Event.  There will be scenic several drives,  a private dinner at the National Auto Museum,  and racing at the Fernley track to name just a few of the activities.  See the POCA newsletter for a complete schedule of events and a registration form.  We hope to see many of you there.

We reviewed the CP calendar of up coming events.  We will discuses them in more detail as the individual date approach.

An aside, you can sign up at www.mimiscafe.com for special offers from Mimi's.  You get a free breakfast for just signing up.  They will e-mail you special discount offers for Mimi's.  I don't see why you couldn't use a Mimi's coupon at the monthly CP meeting.
