March Newsletter
2015
Meeting
Notes
The March Capitol Panteras meeting
was held at Coco's. Those in attendance were: President John, newsletter
editors Jim and Emilia, Ron Southern, Mike Drew, and Henry
Kirk. John had the only Pantera in the parking lot, so he
won the "Driving for Gas $" drawing. Rick was in Memphis,
Sue had bronchitis, and John Dago was out of town, so the attendance was pretty
darn low, but not a record. That was set when only John Worsley and us were
the only attendees a few years ago.
President John is
still trying to arrange to have the June CP meeting at the California
Automobile Museum. If possible he will get a Saturday date. That
would enable more members to attend, as well as any other POCA members from the
Bay Area to make the drive over for a noontime gathering. Details to
follow as they develop.
The Serrano Concourse 2015 will have a
special DeTomaso area, thanks to President John's efforts. John
wants to have a good showing of Panteras at this event. He has
arranged to have Pantera expert Steve Wilkinson be a judge at the
event. John has told the organizers that we can product 20+ cars.
So please mark your calendar for October 4, 2015, which is the first
Sunday of October. Capitol Panteras would like to invite all DeTomaso
owners to attend this event. So please consider a drive to
Sacramento area this October from the Bay area or Reno/ Tahoe
area to join us for the Serrano Concourse. It may be a bit far for
Southern Californians to drive north, but we would welcome all DeTomaso
cars at the event. http://www.nielloconcoursatserrano.com
Since there was little to no Pantera
stuff for the newsletter, we decided to add photos of what Jim and I did this
past Saturday. We attended the Sheep Dog Trials that were held here in
Rio Vista. The weather was beautiful. The setting for the event, in
the Montezuma Hills was striking. There were over 90 sheep dogs, from all
over the western states, entered in the three-day event. The dogs
were judged on their ability to herd four sheep through a series of gates and
to deliver them into the pen at the end of the circuit, all while being
timed and starting the herding over a 1/2 mile from the finish pen. We enjoyed
the dogs, the lamb BBQ lunch, the views of Mount Diablo, the Antioch
Bridge, and the windmills. Maybe next year some Pantera people may want
to join us. The drive to Rio Vista is quite scenic, but it is a 3
1/2 mile drive on dirt and gravel from the event entrance gate to the
event field. So if you drive your Pantera, plan on leaving it at our
house and driving to the event in our truck or bring your own truck.
Tickets for the sheep trials are limited due to its location on a
working ranch, so there are not huge crowds to deal with. All in all a
good way to relax, get some country air and witness a unique event to see the
dogs working in their natural environment.
Step 1, get them near the pen. (after
maneuvering thru 3 different gates)
Step 2, get them lined up
Step
3, push them into the pen. Easy? Absolutely NOT.
Only about 5% of the dogs managed to
get those obstinate sheep into the pen.
