February Meeting Notes

The March meeting of Capitol Panteras was held at Mimiís. We only had 6 members attending.  Those attending were; Jim & Emilia Seiferling, John McNamee, Ken Montgomery, and John & Beth Drago.  We had no Panteras in the parking lot, thus there was no driving for gas dollars money.

The CP meeting for April was to be held with the British Car Club, but it was cancelled because the restaurant probably doesnít have enough space if both groups have a good attendance.  We will meet, in April, on our regular second Tuesday of the month.  President John will be unable to be there, so we will be in charge.

President John updated us on the next Niello Concourse at Serrano.  He hopes to attend a future PCNC meeting to promote the event.  All Pantera, Mangusta, Longchamp, Vallelunga, Deauville, and Innocenti owners are invited to attend since DeTomaso is the featured marquee.  There will be at least four classes of cars for the judging. The website for the event is current; please check it out at http://www.nielloconcoursatserrano.com/index.html

Capitol Panteras will need someone to represent CP at the POCA Fun Rally this year in Las Vegas in May. So if you are planning on going, please contact President John.  Your prime duty would be to attend the Presidents Breakfast, as the chapter representative, and to purchase raffle tickets for the chapter.  The chapter will provide funds to purchase the tickets.

Chit Chat from around the Table

There was some generalize discussion about how to increase the attendance at the monthly CP meetings.  Nothing was decided but topics included a change in location to make for an easier drive to the meeting and more drives/activities to draw people to the meeting.

John told us that the California Automobile Museum has a new director.  The museum has signed a new lease for $20 with the City of Sacramento.  The museum must replace the roof on the building by 2017.  The plan to buy the property from the City fell through.

Ken told us a DeLorean story about three guys that are driving their DeLoreans around the world.  They have already driven Europe, Middle East, and Far East.  The cars have been shipped to the North West of the US.  They will be driving south to San Diego and then head east with stops in Texas before going to New York.  The cars will then be shipped across the Atlantic to England.

John and Beth told us about their visit to the Blackhawk Museum.  They heard a presentation by some original Can-Am drivers.  John and Beth also went to the Sacramento Autorama.  They enjoyed both of these events.

Ken posed a question to the group, ďWhat was the best car that you ever drove?Ē  President John answered a Lamborghini; Ken said a Tesla and a Tucker.  The discussion then got sidetracked on the history of the Tucker and never made it to Jim or John Drago.  I can report what Jimís answer would have been. His high school friendís Formula S Barracuda.  That car got him his first speeding ticket. The engine had been ďblue printedĒ and balanced, and ran as smooth as an electric motor.  The other car was our Porsche 912-5 speed that we drove cross country in 1972, from New York, in four days.  We never starting before 9 AM and stopping by 5 PM every day, plus a lunch break!  The speedometer seemed to read low, so we just drove by the tachometer and what felt like a nice comfortable pace.  When we made it back to the west coast, Jim got the transmission/RPM curves.  Jim drove at 3900 RPM and Emilia at 4500 RPM.  That was 87 MPH for her and 75 for Jim.  No wonder we made it in that short of time.  That 912 was really made for Bonneville.
