Hot Rods and Harley's, May 8th
by Lamar Fairchild
After months of rain and not being able to drive my 72
yellow Pantera, I was pleased to see a beautiful spring morning on Sat
5/8/10. I headed out of Placerville, to Folsom, to join up with fellow
Capitol Pantera's club member Jeff Budelli and his beautiful Red Group V race
Pantera. Jeff is also part of a motorcycle club and had organized a ride
featuring hot rods and Harley's from two clubs in Folsom. We met at the
new Harley store and stood around and talked with club members as we were
joined by approximately 40 Harley's and hot rods. My favorite non-Pantera
was a nice 37 Dodge brothers panel delivery. The air was cool as we
cruised out of Folsom and headed into the foothills of Shingle Springs.
We wound our way into the Marshall Gold Discovery site at Coloma and
headed up the windy, steep Marshall grade for our final destination of Garden
Valley near Georgetown, a notorious old mining camp. After a nice lunch
at a scenic rural park near Golden Sierra High School, the club moms broke out
all kinds of homemade deserts including my favorite lemon bars. Must be why my
Pantera is bright yellow. After lunch, I said my goodbyes and made a
spirited ten-mile run down highway 193 to Placerville and home. What a great
way to blow out the winter carbon and enjoy life as a Pantera owner.
Wanted: Articles for CP Newsletter
If you have attended a car function of any type, please
write about your car adventures and send it to jes@riverdeltawireless.com
to be included in the next Capitol Pantera newsletter. If
newsletter articles are not received, then it will be more of Jim &
Emilia's automotive adventures or "The Motoring Mouth"
Summary of the May 2010 Capitol Panteras
Meeting
The May meeting had two yellow Panteras in
the parking lot at Mimi's! This allowed us to have the
"Driving of Gas Money" raffle. Remember that our new rule for
the drawing states that there must be a minimum of two club cars in Mimi's
parking lot. Lamar won out over Rick. The group of 8 consisted of
Jim & Emilia Seiferling, John Worsley, Rick Carlile, Ken Montgomery, Lamar
Fairchild, and Mike & Nancy Haney.
Ken has reworked the Capitol Panteras website and would like
current photos of members cars, to update the photo page. Please get a photo
of your Pantera to Ken for the web page. He also arranged with the
EuroSunday webmaster, to make a special link, on the CP links page,
that will take you directly to the EuroSunday calendar without logging
in. It works great! He also moved the site to a new server, to save
the club money on website hosting. Thank you Ken for you efforts!
Rick gave us the name of a new Pantera owner in the area,
Don Gagnon. We welcome Don to attend a CP meeting and to join POCA.
Don will be added to the CP newsletter list. Rick said that Don hopes to
go to Reno for the Fun Rally. Jim & Emilia would welcome another
person from our area going to Reno. We are going up on Wednesday since
the fun activities begin on Thursday.
The Tech Session at Rick's will be Saturday, May 22, at
Rick's office/shop. If we do not have a minimum of three cars, the tech session
will be cancelled. A separate email will be sent out to members to get a
head count for attendance at the tech session. Please RSVP so that
we can determine if it is worthwhile to hold the tech session. Rick
reported that his TVR has been accepted to race in BOTH the Sonoma
Motorsports Festival and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Rick's
yearly offer to host a tech session is wonderful, but if we don't have at least
three cars to work on, Rick can use the time to get his TVR race ready.
In fact, Rick needs pit crew for the race at Sears Point. Mike Haney
offered help out at that race. Thanks Mike. Contact Rick if you would
like to be a member of the pit crew.
Lamar attended the Hot Rods and Harleys event in
Coloma. He and Jeff represented the Pantera community. Lamar said he
had a good time and the weather was great. Lamar has written an
article that is in this newsletter.
The latest issue of the POCA Newsletter has the schedule for
the POCA Reno Fun Rally. Jim and Emilia will be attending. Since we
have a problem with the car, we will most likely be making the drive in the
truck. Remember to sign up for this fun event. Jim and I would love to
have some CP company for this outing. The club has voted to buy the raffle tickets
that CP will be given to sell at the POCA Reno Fun Rally. Any items that
are won with those raffle tickets will be used as club raffle prize at future
CP meeting. We hope that CP wins big!
Summer time outings for the Capital Panteras were discussed.
Several people stepped up and had great ideas for drives that they will
organize. Lamar will plan a drive in late September for the
Placerville area. (Jim will ask his cousin Rich, who lives in Placerville
to join us. Mark your calendar Rich!). John Worsley will plan a
Brunch Run to the Grand Island Mansion in late October. Nancy will be in
charge of a drive toward the Coast in July. She has several different
"AutoZotica" routes from the past that she saved.
Thank you all for volunteering. The various dates will be announced
as the drive leaders firm up their drives.
