September Newsletter 2014
August 16, 2014
by Sue Choate
It's August and Garry just got back from Reno's Hot August Nights. We find ourselves in the garage getting the Pantera ready for our annual trip to Monterey and the Concorso Italiano 2014, one of our favorite events.
Thursday we arrived at Los Laureles Lodge in Carmel Valley. Checked in and jumped back in the Pantera and headed for the eclectic parking lot car show at the Baja Cantina. Five Panteras graced the parking lot and every kind of car that you can imagine filling in every other available space. The Sunbeams had their own spot with over 40 beautiful Sunbeams parked on a small patch of grass in the back of the parking lot. Then it was back to Los Laureles to the hospitality suite to see our many Pantera friends that had come from far and wide.
For the first time, the Concorso Italiano was held on Saturday rather than the usual Friday, so everyone was scrambling to find something to do on Friday. Turns out, that was no problem with so much going on in Monterey that week. Rick Carlile was at the Historic Races, at Laguna Seca, and then there were all the many car shows and auctions in the area. We chose to attend the Porsche car show at one of the many golf courses on Carmel Valley Road. That evening PCNC had a dinner at Los Laureles, put on by Steve & Merry Dalcino and Kevin Abbey. The dinner is always a good time and in fact, that was the theme this year. "The Good Times Dinner" honoring Tony Harvey, who was in charge of the Monterey weekend for many years until his passing.
Saturday arrived and we found ourselves getting up early to caravan with the PCNC gang over to the 2014 Concorso Italiano, which was back at the beautiful Blackhorse Golf Course in Seaside. There were 34 beautiful Panteras parked in two rows on one of the fairways (I'm sure the local golfers hate us!). PCNC took a good share of the trophies awarded by George Pence of Pantera International, with Randy and Linda Welch taking Best in Show with the beautiful black Pantera formerly owned by Jim & Emilia Seiferling (Steve Wilkinson's original car, #1575). Other PCNC members that won awards were Kevin Abbey, Bob Benson, & Tom Galli. John & Kathy Buckman, our POCA President from the San Diego area, also won an award.
Before we knew it, it was time to head home. The time went by so fast. It was a weekend full of beautiful cars, good weather, and great people. We always have a good time when we get together with our Pantera family. We can't wait till next year!

Brought the car and me home in one piece. There were 46 cars in my Group 7B. I qualified 27th and finished 23rd. Not bad for a 1.6 litre car in the Under 2.5 Litre Class. It was a great race!!!

Meeting Notes
The September Capitol Pantera meeting was held at Coco's. Those in attendance were: President John, newsletter editors Jim and Emilia, Nancy & Mike Haney, Sue & Garry Choate, John Drago, Rick Carlile, Henry Kirk, Mike & Lori Drew, Ken Montgomery. There were enough Club Cars in the parking lot to hold the "Driving for Gas $" drawing. The winner was Garry. The also rans were Rick, Mike D., and President John.
Sue reported on the progress of the display, tasting and dinner at Frasinetti's Winery on Saturday, September 13. Please contact Sue if you are able to RSVP. Right now she expects to have 21 people and seven Panteras at the winery.
[Ed Note: This event has already taken place, photos and an article will be in next month's newsletter].
President John would also like to try setting up some joint meetings with other car clubs in the area. He will contact the BMW Club that also meets at Coco's to find out if they are agreeable to a joint meeting on their regular meeting night, Thursday, October 9. If the BMW Club agrees to a joint meeting, CP members will be notified. John asks that we all drive the Panteras to the joint meeting!
A date was selected for the 2014 Capitol Panteras Christmas party. The party will be held on Saturday, December 13. [Ed Note; since the meeting, President John has arranged for the dinner to be held at the Blue Prynt Restaurant, Sacramento. We will be able to do the gift exchange at the restaurant. We will need to pick a theme for the exchange].
Loir Drew will be driving in the 24 Hours of LeMons, at Thunder Hill, on September 13-14th. The event organizers hope to set a new world record with the largest number of cars starting the race. Good luck Lori! [Ed Note; Post race; they did set a Guinness record with 216 cars starting the race. We'll get a report from Lori & Mike at next month's meeting].
PCNC & Reno/Tahoe Panteras are hosting a Trans-Sierra Tour on Oct 17-19th. An announcement was previously emailed out to our local distribution list.
There will be another Dreams & Drivers event for Prostate Cancer. It will be on November 16th, in Elk Grove. As you know, we lost member John Worsley to that disease last year. John's widow, Alice, will be driving John's newly restored Bricklin to that event. So please save the date to be able to come out and visit with Alice and see John's restored Bricklin.
