Dreams & Drivers event for John Worsley

November 17, 2013

The Capitol Panteras were well represented at the Dreams & Drivers gathering that was held at Mikuni's in Elk Grove.  The event was a fundraiser for Prostate Cancer, with our late member John Worsley being remembered.  There were lots of "John stories" that were told.  We paid our respects to Alice, who gave us a box of John's automobile photographs to be shared with the Club.  The Club donated money to the raffle with any prizes that were won being used as raffle prizes at our monthly meetings.

All in all it was a fitting send off to John.  He would have loved this type of gathering in his memory.

Christmas Party

December 7, 2013

The Capitol Panteras Christmas party was hosted by Sue and Garry Choate, at their home in Wilton.  We thank them for doing this for the Club.  A Holiday party is always more fun and relaxed in a home!  There were about 25 people in attendance. There was plenty of great food.  Thank you Sue for handling the main course, with the rest of us bringing sides and desserts.

Emilia tried a different game to distribute the gifts in our gift exchange.  It was good fun but afterward some people wanted to steal gifts.  So a second round of gift distribution then took place, but this time with stealing allowed!

It was a great way to start the Christmas season.  Many people even stayed overnight and continued the festivities the next day.

Thanks again to Sue and Garry for hosting the Capitol Panteras.

Meeting Notes

(from the recent meeting, March 11th.)

President John ran the March meeting.  The Capitol Panteras meetings were back at Coco's, on Arden, for a second time.  The move to Coco's was a result of the groups' general unhappiness with Mimi's new menu.  It has been nice to have the entire room just for us. We are all learning the new to us menu at Coco's.  I especially enjoyed the spicy Asian salad that I tried this meeting.

We had 11 people present this month.  Those attending were; Emilia & Jim Seiferling, Henry Kirk, Ken Montgomery, Ron Southern, John McNamee, Lori Drew, Sue & Garry Choate, Mike Zamorelli, & Carl Stein.

The Treasurer's report showed that we have ~$2,100 in the bank.  The Club voted to donate some of the funds to Sacramento area charities.  $250 will go to Loaves and Fishes.  $500 will be going to the California Automobile Museum.  Carl, who is on the CAM board, will research and advise on exactly where we should direct the funds.  A report is expected by the next CP meeting in April.  Carl also gave the group a report on the current status of the CAM since the major backer for the new building project withdrew from the plan.

The meeting was treated to an actual program this month!  We were able to view two different videos provided by Ron.  Ron was a driving instructor at the Bondurant Driving School at Sear's Point from 1973 - 1983.  The videos were from 1977 & 1978.  They featured the "old course layout" at Sears.  The guys had fun trying to identify the training cars and the changes in the course.  Does any remember Bandag retread tires?  They were the sponsor of the videos.

John unveiled his latest DeTomaso item - DeTomaso speedometer clock.  It is a must have item for the marque enthusiast.  The clock will be available for purchase soon.

John Drago attended the meeting.  John is looking for a Pantera.  He has been hooked up with Mike Drew to help with his quest.

The POCA Fun Rally is approaching.  It is set for May in San Diego.  So far only Lori & Mike and Sue & Garry are planning to attend. You can check the latest POCA Newsletter for a complete schedule of events.

President John issued Executive Order #001.  A single club car is now eligible to win the driving for gas money.

Driving for Gas Money this month: no winner

Raffle Drawing: Henry; Hagerty brief case, coffee cup, and hat  (from the Mikuni event)
