Blackhawk Museum Speaker Series

By Jim & Emilia Seiferling

We started going to the museum’s speaker series in November 2015, when Matt Stone (former POCA president) was the speaker.  We learned that if you’re a senior, there is a major discount for being an annual member.  With the expanding speaker series this became a no-brainer and paid for itself very quickly, compared to the regular admission price.  As an added benefit, you also become an associate member of the Smithsonian, which includes reciprocal benefits at all Smithsonian organizations in the USA, Puerto Rico, and Panama.  Below is a list of the people we’ve heard.  Even the talks on western history have been very interesting.

Matt Stone; Heroes, Legends and Friends

Bill Warner; The Cars of Cuba

Wayne Carini; "My Life Chasing Classic Cars..."

Allen Grant; Working for Carol Shelby and the Team Shelby 50th Anniversary car show

Tom Cotter; Automotive Writer; Barn Finds

Bobby Rahal; Indy 500 Winner & Three Time CART Champion

Vic Elford; Legendary Endurance Racer

David Fetherston; History of Bonneville

David Hobbs; Race Car Driver & Commentator

Raffi Minasian: Autonomous Vehicles

---This article, sent to us from Pantera owner Jim Nowlin, pretty well sums up Raffi’s presentation

https://www.motorists.org/alerts/jigsaw-future-car-ownership-nma-e-newsletter-416/  Will owning an exotic car, like the Pantera, even have any appeal in 10 years or so?

Marshall Buck; The Art & Craftsmanship of Model Building

-One of his models was so correct that the real car had to be re-restored to match the model !!

Jim “O” Oberhofer; Top Fuel For Life; crew chief for Doug Kalitta

Chris Brock; Chief Judge-Pebble Beach Concours

John Fitzpatrick; My Life at the Wheel

Mat Stone, Ed Iskenderian and the History of Hot Rodding

Capitol Panteras Christmas Party

December 17th

By Jim Seiferling

John Drago graciously stepped up and organized our Christmas party at. Viscontis Ristorante in Folsom  The restaurant had a room size limit of 24 and we had 23 in attendance.  This years’ theme for the gift exchange was anything car related and/or a recycled automobile book.  The gift target value was about $20.  This was a fun and easy theme for our gift exchange, with a lot of stealing of gifts. Viscontis Italian restaurant did a very good job and is well worth a return visit, if you are in the area. It appears it’s a very popular restaurant, so it might be wise to make a reservation.

Meeting Notes, April 2018

President John Drago called the meeting to order.  We had 8 people present.  John & Beth, Jim & Emilia, long lost Henry Kirk (still building on the Naval Post Grad School, in Monterey), Curt Hall, Ken Montgomery, and  John McNamee.

Sue & Gary Choate are thinking about setting up another dinner Frasinitti Winery for the club on Saturday, July 28th.  Please let us know if you are interested.

The California Auto Museum needs Pantera’s for display, between Sunday May 6th at 9am thru Sunday June 3rd at 8am.  Your car will be there a month. They need more than a single Pantera.  Contact John if you’re interested.

Curt Hall will be attending the Fun Rally from April 25-29.   We gave Curt $100 to buy raffle tickets for our chapter.  The hotel has extended the discounts on rooms for $155/night.

Ken will be revamping the website to make it ADA compliant.  Who knew that there was such a thing?  Lucky for us Ken know how to do it.

John proposed having a BBQ as a social event.  If anyone would like to host, the club would absorb the cost.  Please bear in mind that our club treasury is on the low side, so it may need to be a partial pot luck event.  Contact John Drago if you would like to host.  johnjaydrago@yahoo.com  9916-955-5900 cell/text
